"Tegami-dokoro" is a quiet lounge created for writing letters. Stationery and writing tools are provided so that anyone can stop by at any time and write. Step slightly away from your everyday life, reflect on your memories, emotions, and loved ones—and use this space as a place to connect with your heart.

Tegami-dokoro Funabashi sits in quiet repose, much like a treasure vault.
Feel the greenery and light as you reflect on your thoughts, or just quietly settle into a chair.
It is a place to let time gently pass, engaging in quiet dialogue
with "that special someone" or with yourself.

Letter set

At Tegami-dokoro, writing tools, stationery, and envelopes are all provided for your free use.

Drinks

You can relax and write your letter while enjoying some tea or coffee.

Post

Inside Tegami-dokoro, you'll find a wall-mounted post box. Letters placed here will be ritually burned (otakiage) to deliver your message to "that special someone."

Along the path leading to Tegami-dokoro, waymarkers are inscribed with actual letters exchanged between famous authors, artists, and their families or acquaintances. You can appreciate the very words written in these letters as you pass by.

About Architecture

Tegami-dokoro is a tranquil space designed for you to connect with yourself and your loved ones through letters, allowing you to truly face your feelings. Its serene and peaceful atmosphere, along with the sense of time flowing as letters and thoughts are delivered across eras, draws inspiration from the Azekura-zukuri style of Shosoin and the Farnsworth House in the U.S.

The "Tegami-hyo" (Letter Waymarkers), which guide you from the entrance of the grounds to Tegami-dokoro, are signposts inscribed with actual letters written by real-life authors and artists to their families and acquaintances. As you make your way to Tegami-dokoro, these markers help prepare your heart for writing.

Tegami-dokoroEdogawa

Tegami-dokoro Edogawa, nestled down the stairs from the main hall,
is a space detached from daily life.
Here, you can confront your feelings while watching a flickering flame,
or relax on the veranda.
It's a place to spend time as you wish,
confronting the uncertainties within yourself.

At Tegami-dokoro, writing tools, stationery, and envelopes are all provided for your free use.

On the veranda, a service counter offers complimentary drinks for you to enjoy freely.
