Letter Pilgrimage Memorial Ceremony

Letter Pilgrimage Memorial Ceremony

The letters sent to Tegami-dera are burned in a memorial ceremony called otakiage in Japanese. When each letter is burned, we read out loud the names of the person to whom the letter is adressed to.

If you would like us to read outloud the name of the person you’ve addressed your letter to, please fill out the form below. If you are interested, the memorial ceremony may be observed by anyone who wishes to.

Date: The last Sunday of every month at 15:30 (3:30 PM). (In case of rain, the ceremonial burning will be conducted the following day or two days after)
Address: Tegami-dera (Chiba Prefecture, Funabashi City, Ojimbocho 1306)
Note: The deadline for each month’s submissions is 4 days before the ceremony. Letters received after that will be read in the following month’s Memorial Ceremony.
