Event: Writing New Year's Cards to Those Who Have Passed
We will be holding an event at Funabashi Tegami-dokoro to write "New Year's Cards to the Deceased" while gazing into the brightly burning fireplace.
・Date: Sunday, December 5th, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
・Location: "Funabashi Tegami-dokoro" (1306 Oganeho-cho, Funabashi-shi, Chiba)
・Capacity: First 15 people
・Participation Fee: 500 yen per person
During this event, you'll listen to a Dharma talk by a monk, then reflect on "that special someone" as you place firewood into the fireplace and gaze at the flames, and finally, write a New Year's card to your deceased loved one.
After the event, your completed New Year's cards can be dropped into the "Tegami-dera Post." For those who wish, ritual burning (otakiage) will be performed on the same day.
"A Suggestion for a Solitary Society: Loneliness and Being Alone are Different"
A Message from the Head Priest and Founder of Tegami-dera
Many people in their 70s and 80s, who are the primary senders of New Year's cards, are feeling increasingly lonely as the number of recipients dwindles year by year. However, by writing New Year's cards to those who have passed and remembering them, we can help people avoid falling into spiritual loneliness even when living alone. Furthermore, it allows them to learn a mindset of accepting their own mortality.
If you wish to participate, please make a reservation in advance or come to the venue on the day of the event.
